ESL Program

ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT

We combine the world’s best language teaching practices. Our ESL facilitators are CELTA certified for practical fluency and IB trained for academic rigor, fostering both critical thinking and communication mastery.

ESL Program for International Multilingual Learners

Our English as a Secondary Language (ESL) program is fundamentally rooted in a vision of rapid academic integration and linguistic equity. We strategically ensure that students transition into the mainstream classroom environment with the necessary support to thrive at the earliest academically appropriate juncture.

This inclusive, dual-focused program is designed to cultivate sophisticated English language proficiency while simultaneously honouring and sustaining our students’ diverse cultural and linguistic heritage. The ESL framework is meticulously aligned to interlock seamlessly with the academic rigor of our IB and Cambridge curricula.

Assuring Proficiency through WIDA Assessment Standard

All applicants undergo a multi-faceted screening process to establish baseline language proficiency across the four critical domains: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

To ensure objective placement and academic planning, students may be required to sit for the standardized WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) evaluation that culminates for initial enrolment into the ESL program and providing specialized assistance across the curriculum.

Upon achieving the standard WIDA exit criteria, students demonstrate readiness for independent academic function. They are then counselled into the study of other modern languages available at the school, such as French and Spanish, a decision made collaboratively with class teachers to encourage continued linguistic growth.

We invite you to explore the WIDA framework, which guides our standards and assessments: https://wida.wisc.edu/
